Android Nougat 7.0 For Nexus 5 Is Here

As we know that until now -- at least the time I write this post -- no official announcement from Google for delivering Android 7.0 Nougat to Nexus 5. In fact, from what I've read that Android Nougat drops support for not only for Nexus 5 but also for Nexus 7 2013.

So to bring the latest official Google's stock firmware to the device is now by using a custom ROM. The ROM that's based on AOSP released by third-party developers to bring a nearly the same experience plus with the additional features planted by the developers.

Now we can show our smiles knowing that there's already a nice developer putting his works to make the Nougat available for Nexus 5.

For that we should give our thanks to Shantosh, XDA recognized developer, who recently released an AOSP based Android 7.0 Nougat ROM that's dedicated for Nexus 5.

You are of course invited to flash it, but expect some bugs because currently the ROM is still in is a initial nougat alpha build stage.

The developer says this; to not using it as daily drivers, but flash it only if you want to.

• Charge your device's battery if it's too low.

Note. Proceed to the ROM flashing guides but keep in mind that all the risks which may happen during or after the process are yours to bear. Blame none but yourself. One morething, if your device warranty is still valid, then it will probably be voided.

Instructions to install Android 7.0 Nougat ROM on Nexus 5.

Installing this ROM is similar like installing any other ROMs, as long as your device's already powered with TWRP custom recovery.

Download Android Nougat (7.0) for Nexus 5.

1. Download the custom ROM above to your computer and then transfer the file to your device's internal storage.
2. Once done, boot your Nexus 5 into the TWRP recovery.
3. Press and hold Volume Down, Volume UP and Power buttons together. Release the buttons once you see Fastboot / Bootloader Mode. Use Volume keys to change START to recovery mode.
4. Inside TWRP recovery, choose Wipe and then Swipe to Factory Reset that's on bottom screen.
   

   └ Note. Make sure you have backups before performing this action.

5. Back to TWRP main interface to select Install then pick the custom ROMs .zip file your previously transferred from PC.
6. Once the zip file selected just perform Swipe to Confirm Flash to start the flashing process.
7. After TWRP has finished flashing the ROM, then you will find and choose Wipe cache/dalvik option and do Swipe to wipe from the screen.
8. Finally when the cache and dalvik wipe finishes, choose Back button appears on screen to further selecting the “Reboot System” button.

1. Open your Root Explorer on Es file Explorer and then find the build.prop file on the folder system. (Suggestion. Make sure you firstly backup your build.prop file before editing it).
   
2. Open the build.prop file using ES Notes Editor then add the following line on it.
   

   persist.sys.debug.multi_window=true

   
3. Save the file and then reboot your device to complete the process.

Enter / Boot To EDL Via Fasboot

Enter / boot to EDL via Fasboot mode. As we know that almost every Qualcomm powered Android PDAs support EDL or emergency download mode, with that we can unlock bootloader of our device, unbrick our bricked device and or modify the parameters of protected smartphone.

Only if the ADB interface can be accessed then we can use adb reboot edl command in order to enter to EDL mode.

Albeit the fasboot mode can be accessed we still can't boot to full ADB on bricked PDAs. And in the locked bootloader device, it's impossible to install a partition or boot an image.

Albeit several firmware can reboot to EDL in Android bootloader aboot module -- widely known "reboot-edl" command, but unfortunately Fastboot can recognize such command line therefore it rejects to deliver the command to the device.

Because Fastboot command protocol is just a text based and simple utility, therefore we can take another road by sending a package with reboot-edl text to USB.

So to deal with the problem is.

Just change the text reboot-bootloader to reboot-edl in Windows fastboot.exe file. Because reboot-bootloader is the command line recognized by Fastboot and it will send it to device.

Therefore, if we replace "reboot-bootloader" text with "reboot-edl", then we can execute the reboot-edl to fasboot and fasboot will send the command to the device.

Instructions to enter / boot to EDL mode via Fastboot.

1. Now you need to download this fasboot.edl zip file, then extract it to you any empty folder.
2. Now boot your device to Fastboot mode -- if you use Xiaomi then can be done by pressing Volume Down and Power till the bunny comes out.
3. Now plug your device to computer.
4. Double clicking on the edl (edl.cmd) file from the zip file you previously extracted.
5. Your phone will reboot, then entering to EDL mode.
6. Now run MiFlash, wait for a few seconds, then Refresh, you should see COM port in the list.
7. Now continue with MiFlash now!
8. Finish.
